Why Should I Share My Faith?
Last night we had Jem, a guest speaker from Riverside Calvary Chapel's Abide outreach program, come to speak about the question "Why should I share my faith?" He started off my giving three reasons why we should share our faith.
First, we share our faith because it gives glory to God. This is encouraging for us because just us stepping out in faith to speak about Jesus to our friends gives glory to God. It is not dependent on whether they accept the message or not. Even being rejected brings glory to God. If we stumble in our words or actions to others or if we give the most eloquent message, God is still glorified.
Second, the Bible tells us to do so. Jesus tells his disciples, "Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone. Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But anyone who refuses to believe will be condemned" (Mark 16:15-16 NLT). He says a likewise message in Matthew 28:18-20. Jesus commands his disciples to tell people about him and what he did and so we go and do so.
Third, there are people who are not saved. If we do not tell our friends about Jesus then they may never hear about him. Out of love we want our friends to come to the saving knowledge of Jesus. Just as Jesus gives us great joy and hope we want our friends to experience that joy and hope that only comes from Jesus.
So what are some ways that we can tell others about our faith? One of the best ways you can share your faith is to share your own story. Tell your friends about your own story, how you came to know Jesus and put your trust in him and the things he has done in your life. Your story can make God even more tangible to your friends. All stories about God are powerful. It doesn't matter if you were raised in a Christian home and were a Christian all your life or not. All testimonies show a loving God at work in people's lives today.
