Importance of Proximity
Last night at Kickoff Mike Knott of Mountainview Alliance chatted a little bit about where the vision of Proximity came from. We want to see each other grow closer to God and grow closer to each other. We want to be near to, not far from, God and each other. Proximity is a place where we want everyone to belong, because it is only when you feel like you belong that you grow close to the people around you. We read from Matthew 12:46-50.
Jesus makes us all family when we follow him. That is what Proximity is, brothers and sisters, family together working to form a close relationship with God and a close relationship with each other. As Jesus was speaking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, asking to speak to him. Someone told Jesus, "Your mother and your brothers are standing outside, and they want to speak to you." Jesus asked, "Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?" Then he pointed to his disciples and said, "Look, these are my mother and brothers. Anyone who does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother!" (NLT)
